Sports tech startups to take the stage at Melbourne expo

The Sports Club Management Expo (SCME) is taking place in Melbourne on November 17, and will feature innovative startups whose business is geared towards helping local sports clubs.

There are almost 9,000 local sports clubs in Melbourne – an “untapped” market when it comes to innovative technology that offers a solution to the problems local sports clubs face, according to Alex Mednis, Founder of the event.

Alex Mednis

Mednis, also the Founder of startup Revolutionise and Director at the new Australian Sports Technologies Network (ASTN), says startups focusing on technology in sport have a real chance to positively disrupt the sporting industry from the grassroots level up.

“Sport is a large part of Australian culture, and something that most people can identify with. The business opportunities are endless”.

Having startups exhibit at the expo is an initiative to not only help clubs improve their management and boost participation, but also help startups build their client base further.

Startups featuring at SCME include:

In Your Corner – a web-based crowd-funding platform that leverages the power of social media to help community sporting groups raise funds and achieve their sporting goals.

SportsCards – a service allowing clubs to create custom trading cards for players and teams, complete with player statistics, photos and more; these can be used as a promotional gift, fundraising idea, or as committee business cards.

Water Polo University – the first fully-online e-learning platform for water polo, offering both players and coaches the opportunity to learn the fundamental skills of playing and coaching.

Fanfuel – turning the current sponsorship industry on its head by allowing athletes to be funded by their fans, including capabilities to start campaigns and share the results;

Team Bus – a web-based fundraising vehicle aimed at helping sports clubs, community groups and athletes realise their innovative potential.

The expo will also feature sports businesses, government and other exhibitors related to the grassroots industry.
